Dr. Gillies has been practicing general ophthalmology in the metro Boston area for more than 30 years, while serving on the staff of Surgisite, the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Beth Israel-Deaconess, Needham. During this time, he has been committed to providing quality eye care to the entire family. In addition to diagnosing and treating a variety of eye conditions, he has a special interest in cataracts and glaucoma. Dr. Gillies utilizes the state of the art Femtosecond Laser for his Cataract procedures and is certified for Premium Intraocular Lense insertion, including those for astigmatic and presbyopic correction. Dr. Gillies performs most of his surgeries at the ambulatory surgery center, Surgisite Boston, in Waltham, MA, where he serves as a Managing Partner.
Dr. Gillies received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. His internship was performed at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, followed by his ophthalmology residency at the Tufts New England Medical Center, both in Boston, MA. He was named a Diplomate to the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1990 and a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons in 1998.
